<p>For births and deaths State office has records from January 1853 to December 1896 and since June 1912. Only the cities of Hampton, Newport News and Norfolk have records between 1896 and June 1912.</p>
<p>County marriage and divorce records can be accessed through the Clerk of the Court in the county or city where the license or decree was issued.</p>
